The End Of An Era

Finished!  Isn't that a great word to say.  It has such a triumphant quality to it that makes me want to jump up and down with joy.  But that might just be me.  In a week where I have finished A-level exams forever and completed one of my favourite stories, finished is a good word.

Where Sea Meets Sky has been developing in my mind for almost a year now after a trip to Dorset on my school's reading holiday sparked off the idea.

Evelyn and Rupert have grown up for years with only their father in their life.  He won't talk about their mother and after years they have learnt it is better not to ask.  But when a handsome stranger arrives, sweeping Evelyn off her feet, the two begin to discover that their father may not be all that he seems.

The house, Ship Cottage, is based on the cottage I stayed in on the reading holiday last summer.  There were so many small nooks and crannies, places to hide and creaking old rooms that I couldn't not write a story set there.

Evelyn is an interesting character because I have no idea where she came from.  She is a bit like me to start with, has a short temper but spends most of her time lounging around with a book in her hand.  But when the story began to develop she took on a life of her own, growing stronger as the truth was revealed, finally gaining her own personality as I finished the story.  I'm going to miss her.

Read all of Where Sea Meets Sky here.

Ah, gotta love finishing things eh? I see we share a similar taste in epic titles on that front ;)
